Honey bees bees are social insects of the highest order, living in an extremely complex society that cannot function without effective communication among its members. Dancing notwithstanding, most honey bee communication occurs by use of smell and taste. Dr. Vincent Aloyo, Master Beekeeper and association member, will present information on how honey bees communicate and control elements within the colony by an array of pheromones or chemicals they release.
Winter is a great time to learn more about our honey bees. As we increase our understanding of their biology and the factors and conditions that effect their behavior, we can become more in tune with nature and better managers of our colonies.
In addition, 2018 beginner beekeepers Nancy Tasker, Peter Beukers and his wife who attended the Pennsylvania State Beekeeping Association Fall Conference, will share their experience.
