1015 Bridge Road (Route 113) Skippack
This evening, Montgomery County Beekeepers member Lester Shimp will discuss the cut comb techniques he has developed and practiced over the last 9 years. He has an extraordinary history in beekeeping which he started as a hobby in 1962 and included 10 years as the New Jersey Department of Agriculture bee inspector, 7 years with a 1000 colony beekeeping business as well as New Jersey Beekeepers Association president, South Jersey Beekeepers Association secretary and treasurer, and Eastern Apicultural Society (EAS) director. Cut comb honey commands a premium price, but it also requires a strong background in beekeeping, patience, experience and perhaps some luck. We have the privilege of hearing first hand from someone with all those qualities. You’ll surely want to hear all the beekeeping and cut comb wisdom he will share.
Next, Montgomery County Beekeeper member Scott Famous will provide information and instruction on how to participate in MCBA’s Queen Cell Program which he founded 4 years ago. Scott has been a beekeeper for 8 years, but he also mentors many beekeepers, provides valuable beekeeping information on his beekeeping blog, and is an MCBA board member. Scott is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about honey bee queens and this queen cell program. He hopes this presentation will encourage more of the membership to participate in this incredible opportunity to get “top notch” queens. If you have thought of raising your own queens then this is your opportunity to listen, learn, ask questions and get excited !!!
